Polk places 3rd in rugged Carl Albert Tourney

Wins were definitely hard to come by as the Durant High School wrestling team returned to action for the first time since the holiday break in the rugged Malcolm Wade Titan Classic held at Carl Albert High School.

Only one Lion reached the placing round with Aiden Polk claiming third in the 144-pound weight classification.

The sophomore catalyst scored an opening round fall over Guthrie’s Colten Stevens with only three seconds left in the third round. He followed with a 15-8 decision over Ezra Morris of Lawton in the quarterfinals before suffering a pin fall defeat against Chickasha product Clint Longanacre.

That dropped Polk into the consolation bracket where he dispatched Stevens again in a 17-1 technical fall ahead of a 10-2 major decision triumph facing Kade Carter from Shawnee in the third place showdown.

Adam Haney narrowly missed the placing round at 165 pounds, wrapping up the tournament with a 2-2 overall record. His consolation round wins came via a 1:38 fall over Cooper Brumley from Chickasha and a 15-2 major decision over Altus wrestler Joel Alejandre.

Shawn Humphrey notched one win in three matches at 126 pounds, stopping Choctaw’s Caiden Farris in a 4:28 fall verdict. Matt Frazer added a win in three matches at 132 pounds as well, posting a 9-3 decision over Dean LIngle of Newcastle.

Mac Barbush picked up a 1:59 fall victory against Blayden Harper from Duncan while also going 1-2 in the 138-pound bracket.

Durant’s next varsity outing comes up Tuesday, January 28 for Senior Night with a triangular matchup that will include wrestlers from Caddo and Coalgate as well as the normal dual activity against Dickson.
