Sophomore Avery Sager notched a fourth in the 1,600 meters and also set a school record in the 800 meters on the way to a seventh-place finish in the Class 5A State Track Meet last weekend at Western Heights.
Those efforts helped spark a host of Durant placers while competing against the top runners in Class 5A statewide.
Sager clocked in at 5:31.13 in the 1,600 and then also set her own personal best time mark and with it the school record at 2:23.70 in the 800 meters.
Also for the Lady Lions, Iyana Wilson notched a time of 50.34 seconds for 14th in the 300 hurdles and also tallied a ninth place with a personal best 16.57 in the 100 hurdles as teammate Skyla Conditt ended 15th in 17.66. Bailey Cross checked in eighth in the pole vault at nine feet even.
Durant’s 1,600-meter relay unit of Samiah Clegg, Olivia Crossland, Andi Kovalcinova and Sager was 12th while posting a time of 4:19.58 and the 3,200-relay foursome of Brooklyn Hill, Sager, Judi Free and Laynee Emert also notched a 12th place mark of 10:45.67.
For the Lions, K.J. Lowery was the top performer as he recorded a time of 1:59.25 and took fifth in the 800 meters.
Damien Almos posted a personal best mark of 15.20 seconds to claim ninth in the 110 hurdles while Rylan Avery was 13th in the 300 hurdles at 42.03 seconds.
Lowery and Avery teamed with Madison Roper and Spencer Lee to finish sixth in the 1600 relay at 3:25.57. Lowery, Avery, Roper and Carter Kemp took fifth in the 3200 relay as they crossed the line in 8:19.89.
