After more than a month of action on the road, the Southeastern basketball teams return home this week with vital Great American Conference games.

Southeastern was slated to host Southern Arkansas on Thursday and then Arkansas-Monticello Saturday afternoon.

Vying for the league lead, the Savage Storm men will be looking to get back on track after seeing a late lead slip away last weekend against conference leading Arkansas Tech. Southeastern earned a split on the Arkansas road trip, hitting the century mark with 100 points in an impressive victory at Harding.

Coach Darin Grover’s women weren’t quite as fortunate with a pair of tough offensive outings in two losses against a pair of top league contenders.

Women

The Savage Storm had a 13-8 advantage after one period at Harding but saw the host Lady Bison explode with a 26-point second frame to take control.

Each team finished the contest shooting 39 percent from the field but 18 turnovers proved costly for Southeastern in the 67-52 loss to the conference leaders.

Caitlin Kobiske had another solid offensive effort, leading the charge with 18 points, hitting seven of 15 from the field while also pulling down five rebounds. No other Savage Storm player had more than six field goal attempts however.

Holli Lindley finished with 12 points, Abbie Barr reached double digits with 11 and Brianna Wietelman scored seven but that was virtually all the Southeastern scoring contributions.

Eighteen turnovers again proved fatal against Arkansas Tech as the Golden Suns scorched the nets for 46 percent shooting while Southeastern hit just 35 percent. Each team had the same number of shot attempts in the 74-57 win for Tech.

Kobiske posted a team-high 17 points and Lindley notched 10, but they once again could not get much other production with a trio of Arkansas Tech players scoring double figures. Wietelman tossed in nine and Ashton Hackler scored seven.

Men

Three-point shooting was back to form for Southeastern as they canned 12 treys in the solid road victory at Harding to begin the Arkansas road trip.

The Savage Storm lit things up from the field with 54 percent shooting and in a rare occurrence while normally undersized they dominated the glass with a 44-31 rebound advantage for the game.

Coach Kelly Green’s squad came out sizzling while building the 55-43 halftime cushion and never looked back in the final 20 minutes.

Kody Clouet pumped in five of the treys and ended the contest with 29 points to pace five Southeastern players in double digits.

Chandler Dickinson pitched in 16 points, Brennen Burns added 15 while dishing out five assists and Robert Briley and Santiago Camacho Gomez both had 10 points.

Southeastern was right in line for a win over the conference leaders from Arkansas Tech on Saturday after Dickinson drained a go-ahead trey with 2:51 remaining. The Wonder Boys however scored the final five points of the game to take the win. Four turnovers and three missed shots in the final two minutes proved costly for the Savage Storm.

Green’s team did have good balance while hitting 11 three pointers but shot only 38 percent for the game.

Dickinson topped the scoring with 16 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Jett Sternberger and Clouet each tallied double figures with 13 and 11 points but both were only three for 10 from the field.

Kyle Leslie scored 12 and Burns ended with 10 points and seven assists.
