The wins just keep on coming for the Southeastern men’s basketball team as the Savage Storm win streak reached 11 on Saturday with a dominant 93-68 victory over Henderson State.

That followed up an impressive 9574 triumph against Ouachita Baptist as they closed out a four-game homestand as the Savage Storm remained entrenched atop the Great American Conference standings with just two regular season games remaining.

Southeastern’s women, however, went cold in the first half of a 75-66 loss to Henderson State that snapped a threegame winning streak for Coach Darin Grover’s squad.

Both teams will be home Saturday to face Northwestern on Senior Day starting at 1 p.m. in the regular season finale.

Women

Trailing 39-24 after shooting just 25 percent in the opening half, Southeastern turned things around in a big way after intermission but could not make up enough ground despite outscoring the visitors 42-36 following the break.

Three Southeastern players tallied double figures led by Kenzli Warden’s 16 points as Caitlin Kobiske notched 13 and Grace Alverson had 11.

That early scoring drought was in complete contrast to the Savage Storm finish in the Ouachita Baptist win as they erased a 46-44 deficit going into the final period thanks to a massive 31-point offensive explosion.

Grover’s squad hit a blazing 70 percent from the field while adding 16 for 18 shooting at the charity stripe to grab the lead and pull away for the victory.

Five players reached double digits in the win, fueled by Holli Lindley’s 21, including three treys. Alverson posted 18 points, Kobiske had 12, Ashton Hackler tallied 11 and Warden pitched in 10.

Men

The Savage Storm put on a shooting clinic to begin the week against Ouachita Baptist, canning 12 three pointers as a team in addition to 27 for 33 shooting from the free throw line.

Southeastern rolled to a 4635 advantage at the half and steadily pulled away for even more after the break.

Kody Clouet, who earned conference Player of the Week honors, was the offensive shooting catalyst in draining seven treys on the way to 33 points.

Brennan Burns had his normal solid outing with 17 points while dishing out eight assists. Robert Briley pumped in 14 points and eight rebounds with Landon Condiff chipping in 13 points as well.

Facing Henderson State, the Savage Storm avenged their last loss before the current win streak began and did it in convincing fashion by scorching their way to 55 first half points while building a massive 55-33 edge at intermission.

Those numbers included amazing 60 percent shooting from the field, including sinking 10 of 18 three pointers (56 percent).

It was a group effort on the three point barrage with Kyle Leslie leading the charge by connecting on five of the treys while piling up 21 points and eight rebounds.

Burns ended up with 19 points and dished out eight assists for the second game in a row. Clouet reeled off another 15 points as Condiff hit for 14. Elijah Hughey and Robert Briley just missed double figures with nine and eight points respectively.

Southeastern player Holli Lindley moves toward the goal.
