SE defense stifles Northwestern on the road

Dominant defense continued to lead the charge for the Southeastern football team as they allowed just 128 total yards, including limiting Northwestern to minus-37 yards rushing in a 25-10 road victory last week.

The Savage Storm scored 25 unanswered points over the middle two periods, erasing an early 3-0 lead for the Rangers.

Southeastern enters Saturday’s 2 p.m. Homecoming tilt with a 5-2 record and an opportunity to secure a winning record for the 2026 season.

Coach Bo Atterberry’s squad couldn’t get much going offensively in the first stanza before finally capitalizing on terrific field position in the second period when Kole McKnight intercepted a Northwestern pass at the Ranger 24.

A 16-yard Levay Duncan pass to Christopher Jackson moved the Savage Storm to the one and two plays later Jaylen Holloway bolted into the end zone to put Southeastern ahead to stay with 8:52 remaining in the opening half.

After a 15-yard Northwestern punt, the Southeastern offense took over again at the Ranger 28 and cashed in the great field position with a Chancy Lester Jr. four-yard touchdown run to carry a 13-3 advantage into intermission.

The Savage Storm defense got in on the scoring action after halting a lengthy Ranger drive to begin the second with an interception by Christian Brumley at the Southeastern 15. He returned it 45 yards before lateraling to McKnight, who raced the final 40 yards to paydirt and a 19-3 cushion.

Southeastern tacked on an offensive touchdown later in the quarter with its best drive of the night, taking over at its own 38 and marched 10 plays for an Isaiah Nelson three-yard scoring burst.

Duncan completed 11 of 23 passes for 103 yards offensively. Lester Jr. was the top ball carrier with 11 carries for 38 yards as Holloway added 36 yards on 10 totes. Sean Steens had two catches for 36 yards and Jax Sternberger tossed in four receptions for 21 yards.

William Wallis posted a teamhigh nine tackles to fuel the defensive effort for Southeastern.
