Silo’s offense proved to be as hot as the weather as the Rebel baseball team blasted its way through the first week of the season in ultra impressive fashion.
That run included a sweep through the power-packed Dale Tournament, outscoring three foes by a combined total score of 32-3, to claim the championship and improve their early record to 6-0.
The Rebels began the season with a two-game sweep of Wright City and then throttled Calera (10-0) ahead of the tournament run through Rattan (12-0), Preston (10-0) and Fort Cobb-Broxton (10-3).
While the offense undoubtedly caught people’s eye with 10 team home runs in the tournament alone, the Silo pitching has been nothing short of stellar while yielding on five total runs of which only three were earned.
Silo began last week with a 9-1 run rule on the road at Wright City with Doc Nuffer and Blane Beauchamp combining for the pitching victory on a two-hitter.
The Rebel offense meanwhile blasted its way to 15 hits, three of which came from Aiden McCarty, who homered and drove in three. Cannon Atwood belted a pair of doubles.
In the Calera triumph it was Atwood and Warner Bradley that teamed on the mound to toss a twohit shutout. Atwood also helped his cause with three hits and three RBI while Ty Hatley posted a pair of hits as well.
Silo set the tone right out of the box facing Rattan as freshman Paxton Scoggin homered leading off the game, which proved to be just the first of four roundtrippers for the Rebels. Jacob Wright, Nolan Northcott and Hatley all went deep while Atwood and Scoggin added a double apiece.
McCarty worked three scoreless innings, scattering four hits and struck out five to earn the pitching win.
Beauchamp got the call on the mound against Preston in the tournament semifinal and fired a no hitter and struck out six in the run rule win.
Offensively the Rebels chipped in homers from Wright and Hatley as part of their 11 hits in just four innings. Scoggin, Wright and Bradley each contributed two hits.
The title victory saw Silo race to a 5-0 lead through two frames and cruised home from there, smacking four more home runs. Wright had two of the bombs and also doubled while driving in four runs. Atwood finished with two hits, including a homer with Scoggin also contributing a home run.
Northcott got the pitching start and win, holding the Mustangs to two runs on five hits with three strikeouts in four innings of work. Nuffer wrapped things up with three mound frames, yielding one run on two hits and fanned four.
