Silo girls exploded early on the way to a dominant win while the Colbert boys held on for victory in a Bryan County basketball split last week.
The Lady Rebels opened the season with the 69-38 decision over the Lady Leopards thanks to a pair of massive quarters that dropped Colbert to 2-2 on the year.
Coach John Dent’s Leopards meanwhile improved to 4-0 on the young season by toppling the Rebels, 54-48.
Girls
Silo erupted for four first quarter three pointers spurred by the one-two punch of Connie Tubby and Kynleigh Pierce building a 25-8 first quarter lead and cruised the rest of the way.
Scoring slowed considerably in the second period with Colbert actually notching a 7-5 edge forged by a pair of Aericca Olsen buckets.
The third stanza started similarly to the second until Silo caught fire once more midway through the quarter and rattled off 23 points to extend the cushion to 53-24 heading into the final frame.
Tubby led the offensive charge for Silo with 13 points while adding six rebounds with Pierce and Raini Metheny also tallying double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.
Cache Atwood added to the balanced Lady Rebel attack with nine points, Olivia Clark checked in with six, Jayci Webb had five, Harlie Gardner scored four, Kinsley McCutcheon and Cadence Norseworthy added three apiece with Kamrey Hendricks and Abi Cordell each chipping in two.
Colbert was fueled by Olsen’s 12 points with Alexis Stogner also posting double digits with 11. Kennedy Sullenger and Kaylee Andrews both threw in six along with two by Marleigh Weger.
Boys
It was a nip and tuck affair throughout as Colbert cashed in a plethora of offensive rebounds for second chance opportunities while holding a slim lead most of the contest.
The Leopards got a couple of treys by Zade Simes early to take the lead and were up 16-13 through one quarter.
Silo rallied in the second frame sparked by a trio of Cash Danker three pointers but still trailed 29-27 at intermission and 40-37 through three periods.
Balance was the key for Colbert with four players reaching double figures led by Kyle Peebles’ 15 points. Chasien Simes pumped in 14, Zade Simes had 13 and Adrian Clement tossed in 12.
The Rebels, which were hampered by 21 turnovers, had just two double digit scorers with Hayden Roberts pumping in six in the final stanza to finish with a game-high 18 points.
Danker hit five treys on the way to 15, Sam Mendenall scored nine, Kason Proctor had five and Jory Allen contributed one point.
