After sweeping to the District 3A-5 title on the way to a state semifinal finish, the Silo Rebel baseball team had seven All-District honorees including three top honors in a vote of league coaches.
The 30-6 Rebels had the Player of the Year and Pitcher of the Year with seniors Jeret House and Landon Langley grabbing those honors respectively while junior Zane Sander was tabbed as the 3A-5 Offensive Player of the Year.
Silo also had four All-District first teamers with Braden Hill chosen at pitcher, Bryce Vandenburg as utility player along with Sam Mendenall at second base and Nolan Northcott at third base.
House, who joined Langley in also garnering All-State honors, had a terrific senior year hitting in the three-hole for the Rebels and finished with a .414 average in his final campaign that included teamhighs with 16 doubles, five homers and 42 runs batted in. He also posted a stellar .996 fielding percentage as the Silo catcher with only one error in 231 total chances.
Langley, meanwhile, notched a .412 batting average that included 12 doubles and 28 RBI along with team bests with four triples and 13 stolen bases. The righthander was the team’s mound ace much of the season as he recorded a 5-3 record with 42 innings, striking out 34 and walking 11 with a 3.33 earned run average.
Sander was the team’s ringleader at the top of the batting order, hitting .388 on the season with a .461 on-base percentage. He posted three doubles, one homer, 21 batted in and 41 runs scored along with 11 stolen bases.
Also for the Rebels, Hill notched a 7-0 mound record in 35 innings, scattering 27 hits with 30 strikeouts and 12 walks and a sparkling 1.00 ERA. The senior was one of the team’s offensive leaders as well with a .436 batting average, including nine doubles, one triple, one homer and 24 driven in.
Vandenburg contributed a .423 average at the plate in his final season and once again led the way with a .532 on-base percentage. He tallied eight doubles, four homers and knocked in 31 runs while scoring another 37.
Mendenall was steady at second base and ended the year with a .296 batting average that also included six doubles, two home runs and 31 batted in. His record on the mound was 2-1 in 16 innings with 13 strikeouts and only four walks while adding a 2.62 earned run average.
Northcott rounded out the All-District honorees with a breakout spring in which the sophomore hit .305 with six doubles and 24 RBI. He was also the club’s relief pitching ace, yielding only one run in 14 total appearances that included 20-plus innings, 31 strikeouts, six walks and a 0.33 ERA.
