A three-point shooting barrage in each contest powered Silo to a hardwood sweep over host Colbert in the season opener for the Rebels last week.
The Silo girls grabbed a double-digit first half lead and then exploded in the third period en route to at 66-35 verdict riding a run of 12 treys.
In boys’ action, the Rebels followed suit with 12 three pointers of their own while knocking off the previously unbeaten Leopards, 61-53.
Girls
Silo set the tone early with a 13-2 scoring edge before Colbert rallied to narrow the gap to four. Freshman Mia Goodlow continued a hot start for the Lady Rebels, pumping in 11 points before intermission to stake Silo to a 28-14 halftime advantage.
It was the third stanza when the Lady Rebels took complete control as they sizzled from beyond the three point arc, canning six triples in that quarter alone while outpointing the Lady Leopards by a whopping 26-6 margin.
Senior Kynleigh Pierce was the catalyst of the flurry, pouring in 11 pointsthat included three treys. Goodlow, Paislee Johnson and Brooklynn Redwine each contributed five during the onslaught in which they forced 10 Colbert turnovers.
Leading 54-20, Silo put it in cruise control in the final period behind a host of reserves as a total of 12 players each had a hand in the scoring. Pierce led the charge with 19 points as Goodlow contributed 16. Johnson and Redwine tallied five each as Olivia Clark pitched in four, Connie Tubby, Jayci Webb, Danae Cadena and Parri Garrett each notched three points with Ashlynn Robinson and Xayleigh Austin both adding two.
Alexis Stogner had a solid second half to finish with a team-high 13 points as Alivia Love added 11.
Boys
Things looked quite similar to a pair of nail biters from a season before between two clubs as Colbert led 15-13 after one frame before Silo really caught fire with four treys to key a flurry that gave them the 33-28 lead at halftime.
Leopard senior Kyle Peebles kept the Leopards within striking distance with 14 points before the break but Silo put the clamps on the Colbert stalwart, yielding a single trey in the third.
Hayden Roberts contributed half the scoring total in the third quarter to help push the edge to double figures before settling for a 46-36 cushion heading to the fourth.
It was Cash Danker that caught fire in the fourth frame with 10 Silo points to help hold off a late Colbert charge that was fueled by Adrian Clement as well as a plethora of offensive rebounds.
Danker ended with a team-best 18 points with Roberts reaching double figures at 14 points. Zane Sander and Sam Mendenall tossed in eight apiece, Barett Snapp had seven, Kason Proctor had six with Blane Beauchamp chipping in two. Peebles led all scorers with 21 points as Alex Stogner had 14 and Adrian Clement added 11 points.
