Top-seed Silo bounced back from an upset loss in Saturday’s opening contest to win five straight games rolling all the way through the loser’s bracket to claim the Stonewall Beast of the East slow pitch championship.
In addition to wins over Moss (10-0) and Kiowa (8-0), the Lady Rebels avenged a loss to Tishomingo in a 10-6 triumph. The third-ranked team in Class 4A still needed backto- back victories over Latta and did just that in 7-6 and 7-2 decisions that captured the tournament title.
Paetyn Garrett blasted a walkoff home run in the 7-6 verdict to help Silo stave off elimination and force the winner-take-all showdown for the crown. Garrett tallied four hits with Connie Tubby, Neely House, Bree Ginn and Kamrey Hendricks all tossing in two hits. Tubby and Ginn each homered while House belted two blasts.
They followed by pounding out 15 hits in the tournament finale over Latta, four of which came from the bat of House while Tubby notched another three. Ginn and Kostina Tubbs also had two hits.
