Silo softball and baseball teams each got off to strong starts while toting early unbeaten records.
The Lady Rebels blasted district foes Hugo and Valliant before edging Idabel on the way to a 6-0 start to the season.
Coach Eddie Jeffcoat’s Rebels, meanwhile, went on the road for an impressive 12-5 win at perennial state tournament entrant Wister and closed the week with a 13-0 thumping of Moss.
Lady Rebels
Silo had little resistance while running away to 12-0 and 16-0 triumphs against Hugo. Dylan Paddock contributed a double and home run with three batted in to pace the opener while Maddix Sander was the catalyst in the nightcap with a homer and double as part of her three hits and three batted in.
In an 11-1 victory against Valliant it was Connie Tubby providing the firepower with three doubles and a single as she knocked in four runs while Timber Hensley struck out 10.
Offense was a bit harder to come by in the 3-2 win over Idabel as Paisley Johnson’s RBI double in the sixth inning got the Lady Rebels off the mat. Hensley then helped her own cause by doubling and scoring the winning run in the seventh.
Trinity Ford finished with two hits, including a double, in spurring the Silo offensive attack in an 8-5 triumph against perennial power Red Oak.
Silo then scored a 6-2 win at Wilburton, scoring four unanswered runs to fuel a Hensley pitching gem in which she went the distance and allowed a pair of unearned runs on six hits. Hensley, Kamrey Hendicks and Cache Atwood all had two hits in keying the Lady Rebels arsenal as both of Hensley’s went for doubles.
Rebels
Sam Mendenall had two hits, including a home run, and drove in four in spearheading the Silo offensive charge against Wister.
The Rebels exploded for nine runs over the final three innings to break open a tight contest and never looked back. Jeret House contributed two hits and knocked in a pair.
Senior Gabe Hernandez scattered three runs on four hits over four innings for the pitching victory.
A scoreless battle with Moss through two frames turned in a hurry as Silo erupted for 13 runs in the third inning alone.
House had the biggest blows in that decisive stanza thanks to a two-run homer and three-run homer as the Rebels batted around the lineup nearly two full times.
Zane Sander and Hernandez each tallied a pair of hits while House drove in five for the game.
