There was plenty of offensive production in Southeastern’s Great American Conference baseball series with Southwestern at home over the weekend as the Savage Storm tallied 33 runs in three games.
Despite the scoring numbers, Coach Alan Trayler’s squad only managed one win in the series. They rolled to an 18-7 run-rule verdict in the opener before a 6-4 loss in the middle game and 17-11 defeat in the finale that dropped the Southeastern record to 15-23 on the season. They’ll be back on the road at Arkansas-Monticello beginning on Friday.
The Savage Storm blasted 18 hits in the first outing of the weekend, including a whopping five home runs and a total of 10 extra base hits.
Wesley Mitchell and Chase Keeton had sensational performances each going four for four in the contest. Mitchell drove in four and Keeton three. Nick Mueller chipped in a pair of home runs and drove in four as well.
Daniel Collins worked the first seven innings on the mound and was credited with the win as he yielded three earned runs on seven hits, struck out three and walked two. Cody Pfeffer tossed in two frames of scoreless relief.

runs in each of the first two frames before the scoring well went dry. Ryan Kirk and Brady Evans belted homers in the early uprising.
Evans finished with three hits in three at bats but no other Southeastern player tallied more than one hit.
Monday’s series finale was a definite wild affair as the Savage Storm utilized a staggering 11 pitchers in the contest. That did not turn out too well as Southwestern managed to tag them for 19 hits.
It was a 6-6 deadlock heading to the ninth inning when it went completely haywire for Southeastern as the visitors scored a staggering 11 runs.
The Savage Storm got five of those back in the bottom of their final frame with the key blow on a Carter Olson grand slam homer.
Austin Thorp led the offense with three hits. Evans, Mitchell and Mueller had two hits apiece with Mueller drove in four of his.
