Tonubbee cards best Lion state score in 15 years

Junior Tucker Tonubbee finished off a stellar 2025 season on the links for the Durant High golf team, becoming the first Lion golfer with three rounds in the 80s at the Class 5A state tournament in 15 years.

Tonubbee carded a three-round total of 249 which placed him 46th in the 76-golfer state tournament field at the Muskogee Country Club. He carded an 81 and 88 in the first two 18-hole rounds and then finished off with a final round score of 80.

The junior stalwart along with Colton Moore were first-team All-Conference selections for the Durant boys as they posted a sensational spring campaign. They were aided by Carson Robinson along with newcomers Max Airington and Matt Nichols in putting the entire team very close to reaching the state tournament with a solid Class 5A regional effort at McAlester while facing some of the top teams in the state.

“This collection of golfers on the boys’ team is more athletic and are determined to live up to expectations,” said head coach Tanner Dupree. “There is no lack of competitiveness within this group. I think having a few guys like Carson Robinson, who play multiple sports, is creating an athlete first mentality. That thought process is benefiting the team, as we posted our lowest team scoring average in a decade. The future is definitely bright for this group.”
