An update on construction of the Durant High School agricultural education building was presented during a recent meeting of the Durant Board of Education.
According to a report by Claycomb Associates, Architects, the project has been going well although there have been delays because of the rain and the number of rocks uncovered at the construction site. Current work includes site utilities, storm drainage and foundation work.
Last November, The board approved a $3,569,166 bid from Mid-Plains Construction for the construction of the agricultural education facility. The project is expected to be completed by the end of Christmas break.
Board members approved the following employments: Vickie Martin, DHS math instructor; Heather McNeill, DHS music/ choir instructor, she is transferring from the middle school; Lorie Vargas, math instructor at Vision Academy; Kiersten Oakes, DMS music/choir instructor; Lecie Murray, DMS ELA teacher; Dr. Ann Ortega, DIS music teacher, she is transferring from Washington Irving; Zane Stapp, DIS fifth grade math/science teacher; Traci Tipton, GW elementary teacher; Vickie Martin, DHS math instructor, and Jeffrey Norris, DHS/Vision Academy science instructor.
The employment of William “Mike” Dills, Aaron George, Barry Hudson and John Wilmoth as driver’s education summer instructors was approved. Employment of Mackenzie Dills as summer services teacher for students with individualized education plan was approved.
The following part-time Indian education instructors for the Summer Enrichment Program were approved: Deanna Bourne, Pamela Carey, Karen Green (nurse), April Hime, Kimberly Hopkins, Molly James, Miranda Lowe, Holly Shattuck, Rachel Shelton and Amanda Tonubbee.
The board accepted the following resignations: Hannah McDonald, DHS director of vocal music; Rusel Smith, assistant student council advisor (extra-duty position only); Chelsea Capogna, GW special education teacher; Tommy Bryant, DIS fifth grade math/science teacher; Katelynn McGriff, DIS sixth grade math teacher; LeeAnn Caldwell, DIS sixth grade math teacher; Sheri Schulze, WI first grade teacher; Neta Wesley, administrative assistant Indian Education (retirement); Courtnie Gautreaux, DHS choir assistant; Mark Lawrenson, DMS special education assistant (retirement); Persephanie Bell, GW special education assistant; Hannah Percell, GW special education assistant; Kindsee Escamilla, GW special education assistant; Terri Jackson, GW special education assistant, and April McClure, NWH special education assistant.
