Durant Kiwanis Club announces April Students of the Month

Durant Kiwanis awards the April Student of the Month to Durant High School Senior Emma Green. In her senior year, Ms. Green carried a GPA of 4.4 while also studying as a concurrent student. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Oklahoma Honor Society. In addition to her studies, Emma was a player for the Durant Lady Lions basketball team. Green was Executive Vice President of Durant High School Student Council and participated in student-led activities and service projects in the school district and in the community. As a member of the DHS Media team, she produced school news programs which aired weekly.

After attending college to pursue a degree in nursing, Ms. Green plans to become a nurse practitioner. Her focus is “to use her career to help others and to become a contributing member of society.”

Emma is the daughter of Mike Green and Crystal Green; they joined her at the presentation of a certificate and gift card. Also in attendance was DHS Principal Amber Bullard.

Durant Kiwanis Bryan County Senior of the Month for April is Carlaysia Brown representing Rock Creek High School. With a GPA of 3.4, Ms. Brown was named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll. She was voted Homecoming Queen and Prom Queen. Carlaysia played basketball for Rock Creek and was selected for the All Conference Basketball team. Brown enriches her community through her leadership in church youth programs.

After graduation, she plans to play basketball for Randal University and major in biology. Calaysia says she “would put any scholarships received to good use. I am passionate and hardworking.”

Accompanying Carlaysia to the Kiwanis presentation was her mother Layla Freeman and Rock Creek High School Devin Birdsong.
