The Bryan County Teachers’ Meeting was Sept. 4 at Southeastern Bloomer Sullivan Arena, and the theme was “Teaching the Past. Shaping the Future. Celebrating 250 years.
Retired Durant High School science teacher and Oklahoma Teacher of the Year for 2017 Jon Hazell was the master of ceremonies. Comedian and motivational speaker Larry Weaver was the speaker.
The Boy Scouts presented the colors and National Anthem, and the Southeastern Band provided entertainment. Southeastern President Dr. David Whitlock and Jennifer Ballew, director of Southeastern alumni relations, spoke at the event.
Emily Rice of Silo was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year, and Sheila Long of Silo was named the Secondary Teacher of the Year. Colbert Superintendent Taylor Matlock was selected as the Administrator of the Year.
Elementary Teacher of the Year candidates were Megan Ervin, Achille; Christy Roberts, Bennington; Taylor Ishmael, Caddo; Kelli Teafatiller, Calera; Amber Beal, Colbert, and Rannde Frederick, Rock Creek.
Secondary Teacher of the Year candidates were Angela Parker, Achille; Beth McAdams, Bennington; Paul McLaughlin, Caddo; Michelle Cromer, Calera; Amy Richard, Colbert; Austin Clark, Kiamichi Tech, and Allison Coker, Rock Creek.
Administrator of the Year candidates were Steve Spangler, Achille; Mary Pierce, Bennington; Spencer Phipps, Caddo; Greg Thralls, Calera; J. Scott Lowrance, Kiamichi Tech; Robin Robinson, Rock Creek, and Elizabeth Sullivan, Silo.
