Choctaw Cultural Center to celebrate third anniversary

The Choctaw Cultural Center will mark its third year of sharing Choctaw history and culture, unique art exhibits, concerts by Native entertainers, school tours, and more on Saturday, July 27. The public is invited for a day of activities for all ages from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Durant Lions Club celebrates 103rd anniversary

The Durant Lions Club recently celebrated 103 years of community service at the Choctaw Cultural Center. Fifty-one-year member Lion David Kelly started the banquet with prayer, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.

Durant Economic Development Director Kathy Moore spoke during last week’s city council meeting to update the council on the economic situation in the community. Moore is also director of the Durant Industrial Authority and she was began her duties in January.

New Durant School District Superintendent Mark Moring attended his first official meeting of the Durant Board of Education on Monday. Moring replaces Duane Merideth who retired effective July 1.
