Bokchito receives Small Municipality Sewer System of the Year award

Oklahoma Municipal Assurance Group’s (OMAG) Sanitary Sewer System of the Year awards recognize outstanding municipal sewer systems across Oklahoma. Presented annually at the Sanitary Sewer Expo, there are two award categories: one for large municipalities and one for small towns.

Stingy Southeastern defense pitches shutout

Southeastern’s defense turned in its fourth straight strong performance, scored a touchdown and pitched its first shutout of the season on Saturday with a 27-0 road throttling of Arkansas-Monticello.

Many ribbons were won by Bryan County 4-H members on their fair exhibits entered at the Oklahoma State Fair held in Oklahoma City. Forty-seven Counties participate at the Oklahoma State Fair.

Colbert FCCLA officers receive leadership training

Six students from the Colbert Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America chapter recently attended the 2024 Lead Chapter Officer Training Conference. The Lead Conference, one of 4 planned around the state, was September 18th at McAlester Life Church.

Fortnightly Club makes donation to Child Nutrition Services

Fortnightly Club of Durant recently presented a donation check to the Durant Independent School District Child Nutrition Services as their “National Day of Service” project. Fortnightly Club was organized in Durant in 1902 and federated in 1903 as a member of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

DCFA approves final projects

The Durant Community Facilities Authority in a meeting last Friday approved a final round of projects from sales tax revenue from a tax passed 20 years ago that expired in September.
The American Locomotive Company (ALCO) 4014 “Big Boy” steam locomotive built in 1941 crosses the Blue River Bridge at Armstrong after leaving Durant Sunday afternoon. The locomotive attracted many photographers, train enthusiasts and the public. Big Boy last visited Durant in 2021 and this year’s visit was a part of Union Pacific’s Heartland of America Tour.
