The Durant High School 2024 Senior Baccalaureate was last Sunday at the First United Methodist Church. Speaker Jordan Hutchings graduated from Durant High School in 2015 and he has served five years as the youth minister at Redemption Church in Oklahoma City.

The Durant Board of Education voted May 8 to hire Mark Moring as superintendent effective July 1. Moring, who has 26 years of experience in education and has been superintendent of Davis for the past six years.

Youth Services of Bryan County broke ground recently for the expansion of their facilities at 1105 Lynnwood Drive as their mission continues to serve the youth of the community as the agency has done for more than five decades.

My first time voting was in the 1960 Kennedy/Nixon election. I voted straight Republican. The Republicans’ reported policies of lower taxes, limited government, and fiscal responsibility sounded appealing. This was my consistent voting pattern, with only two exceptions during the next three decades.
