An Achille man has been arrested for suspicion of murder following an investigation by the Achille Police Department and the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation.

The Durant Lions Club recently met at the Choctaw Cultural Center to celebrate their annual accomplishments and elect new officers. The evening started with a guided tour of the Cultural Center, which the members found to be very interesting and informative.

The Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) has named Dr. David Whitlock as interim president of Southeastern Oklahoma State University, effective August 1, 2025. Whitlock succeeds Dr. Thomas W. Newsom, who was recently announced as the next president at Pittsburg State University in Kansas.

Peanuts are a part of my life. As a five-year-old boy in 1942, I rode on the left axle of my father’s Farmall B tractor while he cultivated them. I grew these legumes myself in Bryan County, Oklahoma, in the 1980’s when they were still a major farm crop in the area.
