Six Rebels garner All-District baseball honors

Returning to the spring state tournament for the 22nd consecutive year, Silo garnered a pair of top honors as well as placing six on the 3A-8 All-District team for 2024.

Silo head coach Eddie Jeffcoat was chosen as the league’s Coach of the Year after leading the Rebels to a 25-9 overall record and the district title.

Sophomore third baseman Zane Sander was an All-District choice while also being selected as the league’s Co-Offensive Player of the Year in a vote of the district coaches. He led the Rebels much of the season with a .380 average at the plate and solid .473 on-base percentage in the leadoff spot. That mark also included eight doubles, one triple, 15 runs batted in and team highs in runs scored with 30 and stolen bases with 13.

Senior Charlie Gardner was chosen as an All-District pitcher, posting a 5-3 record on the mound in 34 1/3 innings for a team-high 13 appearances. He also notched a 2.65 earned run average and struck out 54. The Rebel senior chipped in a .274 average at the plate as well as 28 RBI and six extra base hits.

Junior Jeret House was tabbed All-District at the catcher position with a spectacular .995 field percentage that included only one error in 192 total chances. He also hit .300 with five doubles, two homers and drove in 26.

Britton Salsbury was the district choice at second base after hitting .315 with five doubles and 17 batted in while also spurring Silo on the mound with a 4-2 record and 2.17 ERA with a teambest 45 innings pitched.

Shawn Weaver checked in with a .292 average with three doubles, a home run and 15 RBI while playing solid defense as an outfield selection while sophomore Sam Mendenall picked up utility recognition by posting a .313 batting average, five double, three triples and 16 runs knocked in.
