Lady Lions return home for annual tourney

A rugged slate of foes didn’t bode for much success for the Durant High softball team as they dropped all four games in the Bixby Tournament last weekend.

The Lady Lions finally return home this week with their annual Durant Invitational at the Durant Multi-Sports Complex starting on Thursday. Durant will face Broken Bow at noon on Friday and Valliant at 3 p.m. before pairing off for final round action on Saturday.

Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s squad began the tourney with a 6-2 loss to Bartlesville despite taking an early lead with a first inning run after an Addi Pratt double and Lylith Harris single.

Durant tallied just five hits in the contest with Harris and Raelynn Clark posting two apiece.

The Lady Lions were blitzed by Preston, 11-3, in game two as they notched four hits, including a two-run single from Brynn Ritenour. Anslee Morse, Pratt and Korbyn Robinson also each had one hit.

Old district rival Glenpool was the tournament opponent for game three and the Lady Lions fell 12-8 in a shootout as they were victimized by eight unearned runs off four defensive errors.

Clark contributed a double as part of her two hits while also driving in two and scoring twice. Pratt and Emma Sherrer each tossed in a RBI single with Morse adding a hit and two runs scored.

Durant came up on the short end of a 5-2 decision to Skiatook in the tournament finale as five defensive miscues proved costly.

The Lady Lions got a double from Clark as Pratt, Harris and Kenzee Petty ended with a single apiece.
