Durant girls take 4th in Class 5A Invitational

Facing off against some of the best Class 5A competition in the state, the Durant High cross country team had several top performances, including a fourth place team finish by the Lady Lions in the 1st ever 5A Invitational Championship.

The Lady Lions took fourth in the standings, finishing only behind host Carl Albert, Duncan and Blanchard. Durant’s boys, meanwhile, ended 10th in the boys 14-team standings.

Leading the charge for the Lady Lions was Avery Sager as she took third individually at 20 minutes, 43.94 seconds.

Other contributors for the Durant girls on the 5K course included Laynee Emert in 19th at 22:35.85, Katelyn Mauck at 29th with a 23:24.14, Rachel Cordell checked in 33rd in a time of 23:40.08 while Ella Sorrels added a 45th for 24:31.7.

The Lady Lions also picked up a 67th finish from Kira Hoffman in 25:58.51, Alexi Powell added a 75th at 27:06.37, Brightyn Pilgreen was just behind in 76th with a 27:10.93 and Gracie Snow ended 87th posting a 28:21.73. Durant’s boys catalyst was Zach Ervin, who ran the 5K course in 19 minutes, 1.61 seconds for 37th individually.

Elijah Parker tacked on a 42nd place mark of 19:15.75, Madison Roper was 59th at 20:18.93 and Chris Becerra checked in 72nd with a 21:00.37. Also for the Lions, Kyric Lehrling placed 90th at 22:27.93, Jonathan Hitchcock was 93rd in 22:39.97, Erick Lazaro clocked in 101st with a time of 23:21.26, Carson Veenstra took 105th at 23:33.93 and Alex Jimenez added a mark of 24:02.41 for 108th.
