Dr. Sam R. Bigham
Dr. Sam R. Bigham, a cherished father, grandfather, and esteemed educator, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at the age of 86 in Durant, Oklahoma. Born on May 4, 1939, in Wilson, Oklahoma, to Sam William and Florence Edith (Norris) Bigham, he lived a life marked by dedication to his family, his country, and the pursuit of knowledge.
After serving in the US Army during the Vietnam War, Dr. Bigham pursued a career in academia, which culminated in his role as a respected Professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. His passion for teaching and his commitment to his students’ success left an indelible mark on the countless lives he touched throughout his distinguished tenure.
He is survived by his son, Shannon Bigham and his wife, Lorrie, of Dimondale, Michigan, his daughters, Kimberly Sawyer of The Colony, Texas, and Cindi Jobe and her husband, Brad, of Royse City, Texas. His legacy lives on by his grandchildren, Thomas Sawyer, Alex Jobe, Willow Bigham, and Ava Jobe.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jo Ann Bigham, who passed away on August 22, 2020, and his parents, Sam and Florence Bigham.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. in the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jesse West officiating. Family Hour will be held the hour before from 1:00-2:00 p.m.
