Choctaw Cultural Center Fall Festival is Oct. 17-18

Everyone is invited to welcome the arrival of autumn with the Choctaw Cultural Center’s two-day Fall Festival from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17 and Saturday, Oct. 18. There will be demonstrations of traditional tribal activities and seasonal fun for the whole family.

The Choctaw Cultural Center is at 1919 Hina Hanta Way in Durant. Activities will be held inside the Cultural Center and outdoors at the Living Village.

Opening remarks will be given at 10:15 a.m. Among activities are a Farmers Market, demonstrations on traditional dancing, music, storytelling, a curator talk, and workshops on frybread making and banaha making. Also, visitors can learn the ancient technique of “mudding,” how early Choctaws kept out the draft and warmed their homes for winter. A corn eating competition will be held, along with a Guess the Kernel contest, and games of corn hole.

The public is welcome to attend. Regular ticket prices apply, including complimentary admission for Choctaw Tribal Members and those with Cultural Center memberships. All activities are covered with admission to the Cultural Center.

In addition to the Cultural Center, the Champuli Café and the Hvshi Gift will be open as usual. For information and activity updates visit https://chocta.ws/fallfestival.
