Melvin Newberry

Melvin Newberry of Bokchito, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at the age of 83. He was born on Thursday, September 10, 1942 in Honeygrove, Texas to Myrtle Alene (Hall) and James Franklin Newberry. 

On September 10, 1963, Melvin married the love of his life, Dolly Lou (McCann), in Slaton, Texas, beginning a marriage that spanned over six decades. He proudly served his country in the US Army. 

Melvin enjoyed working with his hands and had a gift for creating and building things. He had skills in carpentry and welding. He also enjoyed working with livestock and especially took pride in showing livestock. In his free time, he enjoyed watching movies. Melvin loved taking photos and videos, and had a special appreciation for cars. He also loved RVing and the adventures and memories that came with traveling. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Myrtle Alene (Hall) and James Franklin Newberry; sisters Joy Enzor, Carolyn Felice; and granddaughter Adisson Holman. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Dolly Newberry; son James Daniel Newberry and wife Jeanne of Tucson, Arizona; daughter Edana Holman and husband Randy of Bokchito, Oklahoma; grandson Tristan Holman and wife Raven of Caddo, Oklahoma; as well as other extended family and friends. 

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 14, 2026 at The Gordon Center, 305 N 2nd Ave, Durant, Oklahoma with Bro. Lloyd Lee and Bro. Ross Phillips officiating. A graveside service will follow at Bokchito Cemetery in Bokchito, Oklahoma. Randy Holman, Tristan Holman, Doug Massie, Justin White, Mike Shelton, and Marvin Ingram will serve as pallbearers.
