A tight contest through five innings turned Silo’s way late as the host Lady Rebels pulled away from Bryan County foe Calera for a 14-6 decision last week in nondistrict softball action Silo held a slim 7-6 edge through five back-and-forth stanzas before batting around with seven tallies in the sixth to end the game early on the run rule.
Calera jumped out in front with two runs in the first inning, capitalizing on a pair of Lady Rebel errors and just one hit on a single from Cinsleigh Cole. The Lady Rebels rebounded to cut the lead in half one stanza later when Neely House doubled and came around to score on a Parri Garrett two-out hit.
The hosts batted around in the third frame to score six times and looked like they might pull away.
Kamrey Hendricks led off with a single and a couple of Calera errors helped lead to three runs and grab the edge. They weren’t finished however, picking up a trio of hits after two outs as House doubled for the second time in front of singles from Paislee Johnson and Garrett. An error added another to push the lead to 7-2.
The Lady Bulldogs put together their own two-out burst a frame later utilizing a Rilyn Teafatiller single and free pass ahead of a Taryn Niblett triple and Kaira Beller home run before Silo brought in Kostina Tubby to slam the door in the pitching circle.
A scoreless frame set the stage for the final Lady Rebel flurry in the bottom of the sixth. Hendricks opened it up again with a single, Trinity Ford doubled for one RBI and rode home moments later when Maddix Sander belted a home run over the left field wall. Following an out, Avery McCarty doubled with House and Johnson adding singles. Londyn Matthews chipped in another hit to score a run and Hendrick plated the final two runs on her second hit of the inning.
Silo wrapped up with 16 hits on the day as Hendricks and House totaled three apiece. Garrett added two hits and three RBI, Ford added two hits and one RBI with Johnson tossing in two hits as well.
Tubby fired the final two scoreless stanzas without allowing a hit.
