Durant boys took second and the Durant girls were third in the rugged Cat Run cross country event last Saturday in Madill.
The Lions placed only three points behind tournament champion Madill in the team standings while the Lady Lions slid in behind Pauls Valley and Kingston on the girls side.
Senior Avery Sager had another tremendous performance in cruising to the girls individual title with a time of 12 minutes, 14.8 seconds, which was nearly 26 seconds in front of her nearest adversary.
Elizabeth Hitchcock just reached medalist honors in 15th place with a time of 13:46.9 and several Lady Lions were bunched after that led by Grace Morrison at 27th in 14:45.9. Caitlyn Ortega took 29th at 14:52.3, Laynee Emert checked in 30th with a mark of 15:06.4, Katelyn Hitchcock notched a 33rd place time of 15:16.2 with Rozlyn Brumley in 36th at 15:26.3 and Judi Free just behind in 37th clocking in at 15:27.
Additional placing marks were Aubri Hixon, 39th (15:29.3); Kyah French, 44th (15:51.9); Selena Osorio, 48th (16:05.7); Skylar St. John, 66th (17:54.2); Hazel Rawlings, 69th (18:17.7); Skyla Conditt, 70th (18:32.2); and Abigail Hixon, 80th (19:55.2).
On the boys’ side, the Lions notched a pair of Top 10 finishers with senior Zach Ervin clocking in fourth with a time of 17 minutes, 47.6 seconds on the 5,000-meter course. Junior Hudson Phillips was close behind in sixth at 18:14.8.
Jared Osorio contributed a medalist finish in 14th with a time of 19:03.6 as Isaiah Hall checked in 17th at 19:22.7. Blake Rhynes took 25th in 20:20.9, Hudson Lee was 33rd posting a 20:46.2, Rylan Marsh ended 44th at 21:44.9 and Kason Ford wrapped up 55th with a mark of 22:13.1.
Other DHS placers included Logan Wyrick, 58th (22:58.7); Ivan Becerra, 61st (23:08.5); Kolson Gordon, 68th (23:37.3); Noah Brumley, 69th (23:43.4); Ian Spencer, 85th (25:21.3); Kinsler Ammons, 96th (26:46.7); Cole Parker, 101st (27:25.4); D.J. Donaldson, 104th (27:38.4); and Remington Varner, 112th (29:52.1).
Durant’s junior girls posted a second place team effort in the highlycompetitive event as Vivian Lee notched a fourth place mark of 9:54.8, Timber McKinney was eighth at 10:31 and Kensington Whitmire also tabbed a
10th in 10:50.8 over the
2,400-meter course in leading the young Lady Lions.
Placing as well were Archer Brumley, 16th

Jaxon Barnes was the top junior high boys placer for the Lions, ending in 12th overall with a time of 13:34.3 as they ran
3,200 meters. Lawson Scott posted a 20th place showing of 13:52.6 while Bentley Ballew ended 22nd at
13:57.5.
