The Caddo Lady Bruins opened up a full-scale week of softball action last week with a 9-0 whitewashing of Bryan County rival Caddo.
Ranked second in Class A, the Lady Bruins followed up with five wins in seven other games that included a runner-up finish to Class 4A Mannford in the prestigious Roff Invitational that moved their record to 20-4 on the season.
In the Calera victory, Caddo got a stellar pitching performance from Paxtyn Pearson, who yielded just two hits and struck out four in five innings of work to record the shutout.
Caddo broke that game wide open in the first inning with six runs as they capitalized on five Lady Bulldog errors. Brylee Daniel tossed in a two-run triple in the second stanza and capped the Lady Bruin scoring with another RBI triple in the fourth.
Daniel and Kiersyn Powell each had two hits to lead the eight-hit attack for Caddo. Kaira Beller and Cinsleigh Cole notched hits for Calera.
The Lady Bruins posted three straight tournament wins on Saturday to reach the title tilt, stopping Sulphur (6-1), Kiowa (10-2) and Red Oak (4-2) before a narrow 4-3 defeat to Mannford.
Audrey Hughes notched a triple and Gage Vaughn drove in two in the Sulphur triumph with Harlee Taylor adding two hits and Braylee Malone two RBI against Kiowa.
Caddo made a 3-0 first inning lead against Red Oak hold up as Daniel contributed a solo homer and Ryan Uber chipped in a double as part of her two hits.
The Lady Bruins jumped in front 3-0 again in the finals but weren’t able to hold off the Lady Pirates despite a 9-7 edge in hits. Malone and Daniel posted two hits apiece.
Calera 11, Colbert 0 (softball)
Calera bounced back from its Caddo loss to throttle another Bryan County foe in Colbert with Cinsleigh Cole twirling a three-hit shutout in the pitching circle.
The Lady Bulldogs erupted 10 runs in the first frame and cruised the rest of the way. Cole finished with a double and two singles while driving in a pair to pace Calera offensively.
Auhnesty Maytubby delivered two hits and three RBI while Jaedyn Umsted also had two hits and knocked in a pair. Rilyn Teafatiller pitched in the other Lady Bulldog hit and drove in two.
Gracie Bird, Ashtyn James and Charlsee Fuller accounted for Colbert hits.
Silo reaches tourney finals
The Silo Lady Rebels rode strong pitching and key hits to five straight wins over rugged competition in reaching the finals of their own tournament last week.
Silo toppled Sequoyah Tahlequah (5-2) thanks to a Maddix Sander tie-breaking three-run double in the final inning. They followed with an 11-1 win over Cyril as Brylee Smothers tossed a three-hitter in the pitching circle and added a 4-2 triumph against Bethel behind Kostina Tubby’s complete game two-hitter.
In the first game of bracket play, the Lady Rebels needed late game heroics again as they scored three times in extra innings to break a 1-1 deadlock. Sander notched a solo home run for the lead with Paislee Johnson, Neely House and Paisley LaRoche splicing together two-out hits for the insurance tallies. Smothers added another pitching win, scattering three hits and just one unearned run.
Cyril rallied back to the semifinals and claimed an early 1-0 lead before six unanswered from the hosts.
Tubby homered as part of her two hits and drove in three runs while Sander smacked three doubles and knocked in a pair of runs. Trinity Ford also tossed in a hit.
