Cleo Vails, of Durant, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on September 27, 1938, to Jesse James and Pearl (Manners) Buttram, Cleo married Connie Gene Vails on June 4, 1955 in Durant, Oklahoma.

Her professional life was characterized by her role as an administrator for the Camp Fire Girls, where she inspired countless young lives. Later, she brought her warmth and dedication to Main Street Laundry, where she worked for many years. A woman of many interests, Cleo found joy in sewing, reading, cooking, traveling, and fishing. 

Cleo's journey was marked by her dedication to her family and her community. She is survived by her loving son, Michael Vails, and his wife Shannon of Weatherford, Texas; her devoted daughter, Kathy Springfield of Durant; and her cherished grandchildren, Braden Vails of Weatherford, Gunnar Springfield of Durant, and Savanah Springfield of El Reno. Cleo was the heart of her family, and her legacy will continue to thrive through them.

Her life was also shaped by the loss of her beloved husband, Gene Vails, her precious granddaughter Annette Flowers, her brothers Jesse and S.C. Buttram, her sister Geneva Reeder, and her special friend Monroe Cross.

Her family will receive guests at her Family Hour on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 from 7:00-8:00 p.m. at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home. Her funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 18, 2024 at the Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home Chapel. Cleo will be laid to rest at Highland Cemetery following her funeral service.
