Darrell Gene Smith
Darrell Gene Smith, age 63, of Mead, Oklahoma, passed away on September 24, 2025, in Plano, Texas. He was born on October 18, 1961, in Borger, Texas, to Billy Gene Smith and Margaret JoAnn Smith (Workman). On September 16, 1982, Darrell married the love of his life, Rhonda Argo, at Durant First Baptist Church. Together they built a family with faith, and love. Darrell worked as a Maintenance Technician for the Chickasaw Nation. He was also a proud veteran, having served 12 years in the National Guard. Darrell loved old vehicles and enjoyed working on them. He was a gifted craftsman who could make just about anything. He found joy in spending time with his family, spoiling his grandchildren, and being a long-time devout member of Victory Life Church in Durant. His devotion to God was central to his life, and he always made sure his loved ones were taken care of.
Darrell will be remembered for the way he loved his family so deeply and so well. Darrell is survived by his wife of 43 years, Rhonda Smith of the home; son Christopher Smith and wife Elizabeth of Mead, OK; daughter Christy Bennett and husband Seth of Durant, OK; grandchildren Benjamin Smith, Kennedy Smith, Emily Bennett, and Avery Bennett; father Billy Gene Smith of Mead, OK; brothers Billy Dale Smith & family, Rick Smith & family, Terry Smith & family, and Steve Smith & family; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret JoAnn Smith, and his sister, Angela Marie Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at Brown’s Funeral Service Chapel in Durant, with Pastor Lee Armstrong officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with military honors. Pallbearers will be Christopher Smith, Seth Bennett, Brycen Collins, BJ Davis, Sedrick Frierson, Jesse Petty, Kimo Puana, Bradley Nelson, and Joshua Townsend. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Billy Dale Smith, Rick Smith, Terry Smith, Steve Smith, Sam Smith, Dustin Morgan, Scott Price, Buddy Argo, Jim Argo, Scott Argo, and Mark Swearengin.
Services are under the direction of the Brown Family and staff.
