Laquita Bob Armstrong
Laquita Bob Armstrong, 89, of Durant, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2026. Born on December 15, 1936, in Durant to Leslie and Hester Caughey, Laquita spent her life rooted in the community she called home from beginning to end.
Laquita married Paul Reed on June 18, 1955, and together they built a loving family, raising three children. After Paul’s passing, she later married Billy Armstrong on December 20, 1986, and the two shared many devoted years together.
Throughout her professional life, Laquita served the people of her state with dedication as an employee of the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Her career was a natural extension of the caring and compassionate spirit that defined her in every aspect of life. Those who knew her understood that her concern for others was not merely professional but deeply personal, a quality that touched everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence.
Beyond her work and family responsibilities, Laquita pursued her passions with enthusiasm and curiosity. She had a deep love of genealogy, spending countless hours tracing family histories and preserving the stories of those who came before. She also found creative joy in jewelry making, crafting pieces that reflected her artistic eye and attention to detail. Above all, her devotion to her family and her faith gave her life its deepest meaning and purpose.
Laquita was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Hester Caughey; her first husband, Paul Reed; her second husband, Billy Armstrong; her daughters, Paula Reed, Teresa Deeds “Reed”; and her son, James Reed and her granddaughter Angela Schmidt. She is survived by three grandchildren Jeffrey Craig married to Deidra Mondragon, Joshua Craig married to Emily Craig and Brandon Reed and four great grandchildren Maximus Schmidt, Aeden Schmidt, Elika Craig and Everly Craig of whom will carry forward her legacy of love and compassion.
A woman of abiding Catholic faith, Laquita lived her life in service to God and to others. In the words of Scripture, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith,” 2 Timothy 4:7. She fought her fight with grace, and she kept her faith until the very end.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Brown’s Funeral Home in Durant, Oklahoma, officiated by Father Carl of St. William Catholic Church. Burial will follow immediately at Highland Cemetery.
