Durant, OK- Nettie Eyvonne Hunnicutt passed away on May 24, 2024 at Featherstone Assisted Living. Nettie was born September 11, 1936 in Utica, Oklahoma to James Augustus O’Donley and Nettie Cordelia (Cross) O’Donley. Her grandfather and later her father owned a grocery store and post office in Utica. The family later moved to Pyrtle, Savannah, Armstrong, and Blue before settling in Durant. She met and married Edward Hunnicutt on June 1, 1951 at the First Baptist Church in Atoka, Oklahoma. An Air Force family of 21 years, they moved from Perrin AFB in Denison, TX, to Biloxi, MS; Chicago, IL; Colorado Springs, CO; Quezon City, Phillipines; and back to Perrin AFB before retiring in Durant.
Nettie worked as a secretary for the Bryan County Baptist Association. She then earned her Bachelor in Education and later Masters in Education at SEOSU. She taught fourth grade at Northwest Heights Elementary before becoming a Reading Specialist in the NW Heights reading lab.
Her love of music and song was a lifelong passion. She was a member of the SEOSU Chorus and attended country music concerts everywhere.
Nettie was predeceased by her husband Edward Waller Hunnicutt, son Glen Edward Hunnicutt, and daughter Amy Denise Hunnicutt. Also by her parents James Augustus and Nettie Cordelia O’Donley and siblings Lucretia Adilee Clausen, Anna Mae Renshaw, Willie Jane Anderson, James Augustus O’Donley Jr, Rann O’Donley, Betty Lou Callaghan, and Ora Sue Ruhl.
She is survived by her nephews Bob Anderson, Butch Sallee, James O’Donley and Duane Keel.; and nieces Janice Marshall, Suzanne Renshaw, Linda Morgan, Beth Lamb, Sandy Bush, Karen Callaghan, Mary Garvin, and Lisa Tutsa; and numerous greatnephews and nieces.
Nettie, known by family as Aunt Eyvonne, was dearly loved and opened her heart and home to all who visited. She was blessed to host and welcome many foreign students and Ed’s aviation students. Lifelong friends from the community, their church, the Air Force. Neighbors, and students were considered family too. All had a place in her heart and her table.

A Celebration of Nettie’s life will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 31st, at Calvary Baptist Church in Durant.
