LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Southeastern Oklahomans are facing real problems. Families are working hard but still struggling to get by. Many of our small towns need better roads, better schools, more good-paying jobs, and better access to doctors and quality health care. These are the things we need our leaders in Washington fighting for on our behalf.

But when I look at what Congressman Josh Brecheen spends his time on, I have to ask — how is this helping us, his constituents? He talks a lot about threats to religious freedom, but here in Oklahoma, people go to church every Sunday, pray as they choose, and worship freely. That is one of the great things about our country. He talks about transgender people like they are a major threat, but they are not the reason our grocery bills are high, our schools need help, or our rural hospitals are struggling. They are our fellow neighbors and human beings and deserve to be treated with respect and kindness. We need Congressman Brecheen to focus on the real problems hurting Oklahoma families.

Congressman Brecheen wants to put more limits on food programs, saying people need to eat healthier. Well, most folks would love to buy fresh fruits, vegetables and meats and healthier food for their families — but those things cost money, and many families are already stretching every dollar they have to keep a roof above their head.

I don’t see how fighting culture wars fixes a road, improves a school, lowers the cost of groceries, or brings good jobs to our communities. Blaming Democrats and liberals may get attention, but it does not solve the problems we face every day. Instead, it just divides us by putting neighbor against neighbor when, regardless of party affiliation, we really want and need the same things for our communities and state.

Southeastern Oklahoma needs leaders focused on helping people, not just winning political fights or attempting to gain favor in Washington. . We need someone who will fight for our towns, our families, and our future. We need someone who will fight for us.

Respectfully, Rebecca Waters
