The Annual Bryan County Basketball Tournament is set for this weekend with all games slated to be played inside Southeastern’s Bloomer Sullivan Arena.
This year will be just a six-team field with Bennington and Boswell dropping from last year’s eight-team event.
The top two seeds in each bracket receive byes to the semifinal round with a pair of first round contests slated.
On the girls’ side, Calera and Caddo could be destined for a rematch of last year’s thrilling 46-43 Calera win as both received byes into Friday. Top seed Calera is currently 12-1 on the season and ranked ninth in Class 2A while second seeded Caddo entered the week 12-2 for the year and rated second in Class A.
The remainder of the bracket has Colbert meeting Rock Creek on Thursday night for a shot at Calera in the 6:40 p.m. Friday semifinal. Achille battles Tushka in Thursday’s other opening round contest as the victor faces Caddo at 4 p.m. Friday.
Colbert checks in with a 5-10 record to begin the tournament with Rock Creek at 7-6. Class B’s 17th ranked Achille sits at 16-2 and riding a 14-game winning streak with Tushka posting a 10-4 mark thus far on the season.
The boys’ bracket has top seed Caddo and second seeded Colbert in the Friday semifinals. Caddo is currently 13-0 on the year and ranked number three in Class A while Colbert had an 11-4 record and 13th in the most recent Class 2A poll.
Tushka and Rock Creek square off on Thursday for the right to challenge Caddo at 5:20 p.m. on Friday with Achille facing Calera in the other Thursday opener. The winner then pairs up with Colbert at 8 p.m. on Friday.
So far this season, Tushka has struggled to a 4-10 record with Rock Creek sporting a 4-9 mark. Achille brings an 8-9 mark into the tournament with Calera sitting at 8-5.
Trophy games are set for Saturday beginning with consolation title contests at 12:30 and 2 p.m. Third place games will be at 3:30 and 5 p.m. with the title tilts scheduled for 6:30 and 8 p.m.
