Durant’s high school wrestlers notched a wealth of experience coming back from the holidays as both the girls and boys competed in the rugged Glenpool Tournament last Friday.
For the Lady Lions, Kenzie Trotter claimed the tournament championship at 145 pounds while Olivia Crossland took second at 110 and Malorie Day also finished second at 170 pounds.
The Lions, meanwhile, had a host of individual victories in their dual competitions but eventually lost all six head-tohead team competitions. They fell to Van Buren, Arkansas (63-18), Putnam City West (36-29), Sapulpa (72-12), Cascia Hall (34-24), Gravette, Arkansas (54-23) and Putnam City North (46-30).
Trotter posted three fall victories in the first period to cruise to the 145-pound title as she beat Tyrene Warren in 1:47, Zoe Mashburn in only 12 seconds and Maricarmen Garcia at the 33-second mark.
Crossland sandwiched a pair of wins around her only loss, dropping Jaci Ervin in a 2:23 fall as well as recording a 21-6 technical fall against Julissa Mora. She fell to eventual champ Jadyn Harper in a 4-minute fall.
Day scored back-to-back fall triumphs, stopping Jaci Ervin in 2:23 and Eindra Moe in only 37 seconds before a 1:24 fall defeat to Taytem Edgington.
Camilla Amaya, Maddi Rivera and Lillie Stilwell each added one victory as Amaya downed Abigale Maqueda for a 1:14 fall at 190 pounds, Rivera pinned Gemma Lingle in 1:34 at 120 pounds and Stilwell downed Bayleigh Hale in a 2:39 fall at 125.
In the boys’ competition, junior Aiden Polk was the big winner of the day for the Lions as he picked up five victories in six matches. Each one of those came via pin falls with four happening in the very first period.
Four match victors were Britton Trotter at 175 pounds and Evan Smith at 215. Trotter scored a trio of first period falls along with an 18-2 technical fall. Smith notched all four triumphs on pin falls.
Mac Barbush recorded three victories in the 150-pound division with Carter Kemp, Hayden Bridges and Canan Walls adding two wins apiece at 157, 190 and 120 pounds respectively. Carson Allen was credited with one forfeit victory.
The Lions will be at home for dual action with Madill on Thursday ahead of the Pauls Valley tournament which is set for Saturday.
