Competition was definitely on the tough side at the Murray State Softball Festival last week as Silo picked up three victories in four games while Caddo split four contests against powerhouse foes as well.
Silo scored shutout wins over Plainview (8-0) and Wilson (5-0) before falling to defending state champ Lone Grove (60). The Lady Rebels rebounded by defeating Class B power Red Oak (5-1).
Caddo opened the prestigious event with a narrow 5-3 loss to Lone Grove but followed up with a solid 5-1 triumph against 4A Mannford. On day two they fell to Pocola (8-3) before out slugging Pocola (12-8).
Silo Rebels
The Lady Rebels rode solid pitching to opening wins as Kostina Tubby tossed a two-hit shutout against Plainview and Brylee Smothers added a two-hit shutout of her own facing Wilson.
A five-run fourth inning broke things open in the Plainview matchup spurred by back-to-back home runs from Maddix Sander and Tubby. Sander also went deep and drove in two against Wilson as Avery McCarty and Paislee LaRoche doubled.
Senior Jayci Webb accounted for the team’s lone hit against Lone Grove but they bounced back by making the most of three hits in the Red Oak win as Smothers twirled a complete game seven- hit gem.
Caddo Bruins
Brylee Daniel homered and drove in two to help stake the Lady Bruins to a 3-2 lead over powerful Lone Grove but couldn’t fight off the Lady Horns in the final inning.
Harlee Taylor and Paxtyn Pearson combined on a two-hit pitching masterpiece facing Mannford. Kiersyn Powell doubled and knocked in three runs as Braylee Malone chipped in a triple and Kayden Prince tallied two hits.
Caddo saw another 3-0 edge slip away to Pocola with the Lady Indians erupting for eight runs in the final two stanzas. Audrey Hughes and Gage Vaughn each had one hit and an RBI.
The Lady Bruins found their rhythm in a 10-run first inning eruption against Dickson with Daniel smacking two homers and driving in a whopping five runs.
Rock Creek Mustangs
TheLadyMustangsnotched a 3-2 record in their own invitational last week, notching wins over Durant JV (14-0), Colbert (6-1) and Thackerville (6-1) with loss to Whitesboro (2-1) and Rattan (5-0).
Kami Wilson fired a nohitter in the run rule win over the Durant JV as Rock Creek belted 11 hits, including a home run from Torres and doubles by Emma Gann, Jeslyn O’Dell, Mahlia Venegas and Maddie Williams.
O’Dell was the offensive catalyst against Colbert as the Lady Mustangs rallied from an early deficit with five runs in the third to take command. A double by O’Dell was the big blow in the uprising and she added another double one frame later while driving in a run. Williams finished with three hits and Gann chipped in two.
Wilson again earned the pitching win, scattering four hits over five hits and fanned five.
Another comeback propelled Rock Creek past Thackerville as they ended with a 9-2 hitting advantage. Williams and Venegas posted a pair of hits apiece while Wilson tossed a two-hit complete game.
