Senior Addison Polk captured runner-up honors and Durant wrestlers had several individuals with multiple wins in the rugged Glenpool Invitational last weekend.
While Polk was the top individual finisher, the Lions added a few other placers with solid showings.
Chloe Marlow was third in the girls’ division with Bo St. Clair taking top honors for the boys with a fourth-place performance at 144 pounds. Asa Pierce notched a fifth-place effort, Klayton Smith and Braeden Emert were sixth.
Polk began the competition with fall victories in 4:36 and 1:13 over female grapplers from Altus (Saveer Bryant) and U.S. Grant (Favionna Wade) before reaching the tournament title match at 105 pounds with a convincing 18-3 technical fall semifinal triumph versus Muskogee’s Grace Fraser. The championship match went to extra time tied when the Lady Lion standout lost a 4-2 sudden victory verdict to Telsie Butler from Altus.
Competing at 145 pounds, Marlow scored a quick fall win over Jenks’ Natalia Morales in 1:06 of the quarterfinals before a semifinal defeat. She then picked up an injury default triumph for third place.
St. Clair got off to a great start by posting a 1:49 fall against an opponent from Jenks and then followed up with a narrow 3-2 decision in the quarterfinals at 144 pounds. Pin fall losses to Class 6A wrestlers from Enid and Owasso left him with the fourth place slot.
Pierce had a rough start at 175 pounds with an early defeat in the bracket competition but rebounded to score back-to-back hard-fought 11-7 decisions, including over Sapulpa’s Nick Dobbs in the final match, while claiming fifth.
Smith sandwiched a pair of fall victories in the middle of two defeats as he checked in sixth at 113 pounds. His first win came in a 3:43 over Martin from Glenpool and then a 4:08 pin of Codey Wilson from Enid.
Emert got off to a solid start with a 4:31 fall win against Holland Ryder from Shawnee at 157 pounds but a loss dropped him into the consolation bracket where he rebounded for a 4:36 decision against Adrian McBride of Muskogee for his second win of the event.
Brodi Payne also scored a couple of victories at 157, dropping Ryder by a 7-0 decision and added a 7-0 verdict over Kai Yagami of Bixby in his finale.
Austin Stachowski tallied a pair of wins at 165 pounds, stopping Nathaniel Acevedo of Victory Christian in a 1:40 fall as well as a 5-3 decision versus Checotah’s Baylor Gaxiola.
At 190 pounds, Hunter Romero was a two match winner as well, knocking off Tom Watts from McGuinness in a 1:27 fall along with an 11-2 major decision against Joseph Clemons of U.S. Grant.
Axel Thurman picked up a 24-second fall win against Reed Bramlett of McGuinness for his lone triumph in the 215-pound division with Aaron McKay adding two victories at heavyweight by dispatching Victory Christian’s Dominick Aeschleman in a 3:46 fall as well as Daytona Dooley from U.S. Grant in a time of 1:59.
