Durant’s Lady Lions gave Booker T. Washington all it wanted for two quarters but Lady Hornets had too much firepower down the stretch for the 59-48 elimination victory in Class 5A area tournament play last week.
Coach Will Robinson’s squad finished the season with an 11-16 record with both playoff defeats coming at the hands of perennial power Booker T. Washington.
Injuries had the Lady Lions shorthanded but they got off to a solid start fueled by freshman standout Iyana Wilson, who scored eight points in the opening frame as Durant trailed only 17-16.
Wilson notched another eight points in the second quarter as the Lady Lions rallied for a 29-28 halftime advantage.
Durant still was in front 32-29 three minutes into the third frame when Washington began to take command, taking the lead before eventually going in front 43-38 heading into the final period.
Wilson finished with a team-leading 24 points with Abrianna Freeman also notching double digits with 11. Ella Sorrells tossed in seven with Emma Green and Anslee Morse adding three apiece.
