Lady Lions close tourney with two victories

The Durant Lady Lions opened last week with a victory and closed with two wins culminate a 3-3 week in softball action.

In the opener, the Lady Lions smacked McAlester, 14-2, and then downed Comanche, 9-5, before doubling up Idabel by a 6-3 count.

Coach Jimmie Wyrick’s unit has an extremely pivotal week that includes returning home to face Glenpool on Friday and then Collinsville coming to town for another big 5A-4 matchup on Monday.

The Lady Lions actually spotted McAlester a 2-0 edge before rallying for four in the bottom of the frame along with one in the second and nine in the third.

Emma Sherrer capitalized on the offensive flurry in taking the pitching victory. She allowed two unearned runs on four hits and struck out six.

Lylith Harris belted a home run with Rachel Spencer, Korbyn Robinson, Anslee Morse, Brynn Ritenour and Sherrer all contributing doubles. Robinson, Ritenour, Morse and Spencer also had a double apiece.

After managing only six total runs in losses to Broken Bow, Wilburton and Valliant, Durant found its offensive groove in a 9-5 win against Comanche.

The Lady Lions plated two in the first frame after singles by Raelynn Clark, Addi Pratt and Kenzee Petty. They added another pair in the second on Clark’s two-run, inside-thepark homer.

That was only a sign of things to come ahead of a monster five-run third that pretty much put the contest away.

Petty tripled and scored on a Comanche error and Durant then strung together three straight singles and cashed in a pivotal Lady Indian error.

The Lady Lions recorded 10 hits as Clark, Pratt, Petty and Rittenour all had two hits.

Pratt went the distance in the pitching circle for the five inning affair, yielding five unearned runs on five hits with two strikeouts.

Durant followed with a solid triumph over Idabel riding the pitching of Sherrer, who allowed only two earned runs with seven hits and four strikeouts.

The Lady Lions plated three runs in the first and fourth stanzas for the final outcome.

Korbyn Robinson, Petty and Sherrer each tallied two hits with Robinson and Petty also driving in a pair.
