Silo run-ruled rivals Oktaha and Dale to claim its own tournament championship while Colbert was dominant in a run to the Calera tournament title as well in area baseball action last week.
Top-ranked Silo stayed unbeaten at 23-0 with its third tournament title of the fall while seventh rated Colbert upped its record to 16-6.
Silo Rebels
Pitching continued to lead the way for the Rebels while the offense provided timely hitting in the run rule blast through the tournament, including an 8-0 opening round triumph against Wister in which Blane Beauchamp twirled a no-hitter. The senior struck out six and walked three.
That was fresh off a onehitter from Cannon Atwood in a 7-1 win at Byng to begin the week.
Freshman Paxton Scoggin belted a pair of leadoff home runs for the Rebels to spur the offensive charge against Wister while Nolan Northcott and Brycen Salsbury also contributed a pair of hits including a two-run homer apiece.
Silo had a narrow 3-2 fifth inning lead facing Oktaha but erupted for seven runs on nine hits in its final two at bats to break things wide open for a 10-2 decision. Six Rebels finished with multi-hit games led by Peyton Scoggin’s three for three effort along with two RBI.
Northcott had a home run as part of his two hits and knocked in a pair, Salsbury posted two hits including a triple while Aiden McCarty, Ty Hatley and Warner Bradley each doubled. McCarty also recorded the complete game mound victory, scattering six hits over six frames and striking out seven.
The championship game was an old rivalry rematch with Dale and Silo spotted the visitors an early 2-0 lead. After getting one run back in the first stanza the Rebels exploded with four in the second to take the lead for good behind two-run homers by Doc Nuffer and Jacob Wright.
Silo completely put it out of reach with seven runs in the fourth inning as Wright, Atwood, Northcott, McCarty and Peyton Scoggin all had two hits to put it out of reach at 12-3.
Nuffer went the distance on the mound, yielding four hits with 10 strikeouts and a pair of walks.
Colbert Leopards
It was a four-win week for the Leopards as well as they got things rolling with an 11-2 regular season triumph over Turner as they tallied 11 hits en route to the run rule.
Blake Wigington led the offensive charge with a pair of doubles while Eric Hokett tallied a double and drove in two and Kevin Davis added two hits and a pair of RBI.
Colbert smashed Caney, 12-0, in the tournament opener as Dalton Cummins allowed only two hits and fanned three while cruising through three frames of the run rule. Hudson Sanchez and Hudson Brigman both doubled and finished with two hits apiece.
In a 7-2 semifinal win over Roff, the Leopards made the most of six hits (three of which went for extra bases) as well as cashing in on six Tiger errors.
Parker Ladd was stellar on the mound, working six innings in which he yielded only one earned run on three hits and struck out a whopping 14 batters to earn the pitching victory. At the plate, Brewer Crabtree, Ian Jordan and Isaiah Lopez all tossed in doubles and drove in a run.
After spotting Vanoss a 2-0 first-inning advantage in the title matchup, Colbert came storming back with 12 unearned runs on only five hits. Two of the hits however were massive blows, including a Davis grand slam that highlighted a seven-run second stanza that gave the Leopards the lead for good.
Lopez added two hits, including a double, and drove in two runs as well as notching the pitching verdict by allowing two unearned runs on a pair of hits with five strikeouts and five walks.
