Pressure defense and size were major factors as Kingston swept a pair of games from visiting Silo last Friday night.

The Lady Redskins cashed in most of 13 first half Silo turnovers into points on the way to a 43-18 victory. Kingston’s boys meanwhile capitalized on a massive height advantage for a 70-30 win in the nightcap.

Girls

Cold first half shooting didn’t help Silo’s cause in the defeat as they managed only a Kostina Tubby three pointer in the second period for their only points as Kingston built a commanding 26-3 edge at the break.

The second half was much more even but the Lady Rebels were unable to make up any ground as Kingston finished with a 17-15 scoring advantage over the final two periods.

Tubby, Ryleigh Pierce, Makayla Clark and Harlie Gardner each scored three points for Silo as Kamrey Hendricks, Avery Beauchamp and Dextry Bowerman all ended with two.

Emily Bellitini had a strong outing inside for the Lady Redskins, notching 17 points and eight rebounds. Joley Hendon scored nine and Avery Ludrick had seven.

Boys

Kingston’s 6-foot-10 senior Reid Cason was virtually unstoppable in the paint, pumping in 27 points and 14 rebounds in leading the Redskin charge.

The hosts were ahead 10-4 through one period, 24-11 at halftime and 44-20 through three quarters.

Charlie Gardner was the only other player in the game to tally double figures, pacing Silo with 14 points, including a pair of three pointers. Britton Salsbury tossed in six, Daxter Thomas had five as Evan Hammond contributed three and Barrett Snapp two.

Kingston also got 10 points from Hayden Seeney and eight by Parks Ratzlaff. The Redskins sank 10 of 11 free throws for the game.

Calera 56, Bennington 13 (girls)

The 17th ranked Lady Bulldogs pitched a shutout for more than a quarter and then turned on the offensive jets in the second half to cruise to the easy victory.

Calera was up 16-4 at intermission and Carlaysia Brown poured in nine of her game-high 19 points during a 20-6 third quarter eruption that put the game away. The Lady Bulldogs finished things off by outscoring Bennington, 20-3, in the final stanza.

Emma Daniel joined Brown in double figures with 10 points. Taylynn Conder tossed in eight, Macy Strahan had six, Megan Burris notched four, Chloe Damron and Jesslyn O’Dell added three apiece, Amariah McLaughlin scored two and Kaysun Thralls chipped in one for the Lady Bulldogs.

Michelle Minyard and Krislynn Haislip both posted four points to lead Bennington.

Bennington 43, Calera 39 (boys)

A nip-and-tuck battle turned the way of the Bears late as they finished the first semester with a glossy 11-1 record.

Calera grabbed a 12-8 edge after one period after seven points from Devin Brown before Bennington narrowed the gap to 2019 at halftime.

Marc Ramirez led a Bear charge in the third frame, tossing in five points, to help give the hosts a narrow 31-30 edge, which they held through the final eight minutes.

Ramirez fueled three Bennington players in double figures with 11 points as Clayton Elliott and Aiden Potts tallied 10 apiece. Caden McGee scored seven with Jakeb Munholland adding five.

Brown was the catalyst of three double-digit scorers for Calera with 12 points. Logan Bumgarner sank three treys and finished with 11 as Devan Walton scored 10. Gavin Chaffin and Eason Humphers rounded out the Bulldogs with three points each.
