The Southeastern Oklahoma State Department of Music will host its annual “Jazzfest” on Saturday, April 12, with numerous local ensembles performing, as well as the conclusion of the 2024-25 Musical Arts Series.

Durant High School had a pep rally March 28 to celebrate students raising funds for the Safe Schools Student Assistance Program during Roar week which is a philanthropy event sponsored by student council.

Achille sales tax proposition passes

Achille residents approved a onepercent sales tax proposition to fund improvements to the town. According to election returns from the April 1 elections, 54.17 percent, 13 votes, were cast for the proposition.

Durant Kiwanians breeze through March

Bryan County Schools were honored this month with two Kiwanis Students of the Month. From Colbert High School was Kristin Webb. Ms. Webb has a GPA of 4.09, is Honor Society President, and was named class Salutatorian. Therefore, she is on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony for Chuckwa Creek Bridge on Crooked Smile Trail to be held April 8

Southeastern Oklahoma State University will hold a ribbon- cutting ceremony for a new bridge and path on the Crooked Smile Trail on Tuesday, April 8 at 4 p.m. The event will be held at the trail’s southern terminus in the parking lot of the Visual and Performing Arts Center (1614 North 1st Avenue).
