Kingston Council fires police chief

Kingston Town Council, in a 3-1 vote, terminated Police Chief Kasey Cox after an executive session during a monthly meeting May 14. Mayor Sarah Jones made a motion that Cox be terminated on “the betterment of the town” which prompted shouts of “No” from citizens attending the meeting.

Kingston Council member resigns

Kingston Town Council member Danny Southerlend resigned and he was not present for the May 13 meeting when the council voted to terminate Police Chief Kasey Cox by a vote of 3-1. An agenda item was to discuss Southerlend’s resignation from the board, however, no action was taken.

Magnolia Festival to be May 30- June 4

The 26th annual Magnolia Festival will be May 30 from June 1 at Choctaw Event Center with many events scheduled. The following is a calendar of events: Wednesday, May 29 5-11 p.m.
