OKLAHOMA CITY – Jack Burrage, a Durant High School senior, served as a page for Rep. Cody Maynard, R-Durant, at the Oklahoma State Capitol February 5-8 during the second session of the 59th Legislature.

Last December, community members walked on Fifth Avenue from Southeastern to Opera House Coffee to see what the street looked like on foot and learn about ways to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists. Last week, Durant City Council approved a resolution of support for the North Fifth and Sixth Avenues bike/pedestrian connectivity project between Southeastern and downtown Durant. Manslaughter charged filed for domestic dispute death

A Mead man has been charged with first-degree manslaughter following the investigation into the death of a woman last year. Sixty-six-year-old Richard Booker is accused of causing the death of Amanda Welch, 39, during an incident of domestic abuse that happened on April 28, 2023.

Durant sales tax passes, Silo school bond fails

Durant voters approved an extension of the city’s half cent sales tax while a Silo Schools bond failed during last week’s election. According to election returns from the Bryan County Election Board, the sales tax passed by 69.95 percent, 738 votes, compared to 30.05 percent, 317 votes opposed.
