Gary of Mead awarded degree from University of Arkansas

FAYETTEVILLE, AR — The University of Arkansas honored its most recent graduating class with a series of spring commencement ceremonies at Bud Walton Arena and Barnhill Arena, and the School of Law’s ceremony at the Fayetteville Town Center.

Residents to vote on Durant school bonds

The Durant Independent School District is having a proposition Sept. 9 for $4 million in bonds that would be used for constructing, equipping, repairing and remodeling school buildings, acquiring furniture, fixtures and equipment plus acquiring and improving school sites.

‘Workers Over Billionaires’ protesters rally on Labor Day

A “Workers Over Billionaires Labor Day Rally”was held Monday on North First Avenue in front of Market Square. The protest was organized by May Day Strong, a movement that started on May 1 this year, according to Marion Hill, who is a longtime member of the Bryan County Democratic Party.

Workers rally to be held Labor Day

A “Workers Over Billionaires Labor Day Rally” will be held in Durant on Monday, September 1, in front of the historic Market Square on First Avenue between Main and Evergreen. The event will be from 10-12 noon, and is volunteer-organized by May Day Strong, a movement begun on May 1 this year.

Fuller resigns from Durant City Council

Durant City Council Member for Ward 2 Lauran Fuller announced her resignation last week. In a letter to Mayor Martin Tucker and council members, she said it was an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Durant, but after much consideration, she decided she must resign immediately.
