Silo runner garners scholarship to East Central

Despite a hip injury that will sideline her for the spring track season, Silo senior Mallory Womeldorff parlayed her high school success into recently inking a scholarship with East Central University.

US Cellular donates music stands and computer to Pride of Durant band

US Cellular donated $1,500 worth of items to the Pride of Durant Booster Club recently as part of its Gift of Connection program. The company says the donation is one of 50 gifts to nonprofits across the country.
A reception for Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education Chancellor Sean Burrage, left, was held Monday evening in the Southeastern Hallie McKinney Ballroom. Chancellor Burrage is a former president of Southeastern and SE President Dr. Thomas Newsom presented Burrage with a proclamation from the university. Bryan County Sheriff Johnny Christian, District 2 Commissioner Justin Boone, Court Clerk Stacy Canant and County Clerk Lacy Allred were sworn in Jan. 2 by Bryan County Associate District Judge Abby Rogers.
A prayer vigil for the Robinson family was held Dec. 27 at Market Square. Durant Lady Lions head coach Will Robinson died while trying to rescue his 8-year-old daughter Clara after the family’s car slid o_ the road during a rainstorm and into a drainage ditch on Christmas Eve in Sherman, Texas. First responders and volunteers were still searching for Clara at press time this week. Matt Swearengin | Durant Democrat
