Silo track pair earns college scholarships

After helping the Silo High School track and field team to unprecedented heights this year, seniors Lewis Cross and Taylor Dewitt each recently inked college scholarship offers. Cross signed on to continue his career at Rogers State University while Dewitt will join Sterling College in Kansas.

Three Valley Museum celebrates 50th anniversary

The Durant Historical Society opened Three Valley Museum in 1976 and the museum celebrated its 50th birthday last Saturday. Greg Phillips, president of the board, said it was special to look around the room and see so many people who believe in the importance of preserving local history.

The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma celebrated the opening of the new Durant Community Center on Chahta Way during a ribbon cutting ceremony last week with tribal members, community leaders, tribal council members, and Choctaw Nation leadership.
Monica McLaren won Best in Class for her 1968 Pontiac Firebird at the Durant Lions Club Draggin’ Main Car & Bike Show on Saturday in downtown Durant. The car has been in McLaren’s famiily since 1968 when her grandmother bought it for McLaren’s mother as a college graduation gift. It was driven many miles and languished for 16 years until being restored in 2025. Matt Swearengin | Durant Democrat
