Have you ever stopped to think about your health and what would happen to you if you were no longer able to care for yourself ? This is something some people think about as they get older. Aging is a part of life, which starts at birth and ends at death.
The years between birth and death are the years that some forget about. Those years make up who we are or who we were. They also become our history in life. As the years go by and we get older, our bodies begin to change as well. The body becomes wrinkled, hair turns grey, and our bones become more fragile.
As we age, things we once were able to do become harder to continue doing. Being able to care for ourselves is one of those things that become hard for some. When this happens, some may end up in the nursing home, where they will live year after year, having someone care for them.
Aging in the nursing home can be hard on some, due to no communication from people out in the community other than staff members. When there is no communication the life between birth and death of a person seems to fade away when the person passes away. Communicating with people is very important as we age, because during the aging process our mind tends to fade as well, so if we communicate with people, it can help keep their mind a little sharper as we get older.
A visit to a facility near you can help keep residents’ memories alive. When you visit, you can help empower residents in situations that may occur while living in the nursing home. This can be done also by becoming an Ombudsman Volunteer. Next Training will be on October 6, 2025, through October 10, 2025, from 10am to 3pm.
