A trio of Durant High School wrestlers were placers in the prestigious Malcolm Wade Titan Classic last weekend to cap a busy week on the mat.
Aiden Polk claimed third place in the 157-pound division, Britton Trotter was fourth at 165 and Mac Barbush checked in sixth at 150 pounds to spur the Lion efforts in the rugged event held at Carl Albert High School.
Polk started his run with a 1:48 fall decision against Anthony Cole from Lawton Mac and added a 2:15 fall win over Carter Wall of Lawton in the quarterfinals before a narrow semi final defeat. The DHS junior stalwart rebounded with two consecutive wins as he dropped Cole again for a 15-1 major decision and followed with a hard fought 7-6 verdict versus Lawton Mac’s Maliki Jefferson.
Trotter meanwhile was on the short end of a fall verdict in his opening match but bounced back impressively with four straight wins to reach the placing round. He knocked off Zayden Smith of Lawton Mac by fall at 2:43, notched an 11-0 major decision against Newcastle’s Cameron Povec, won a 5-0 decision versus Richard Harris from Midwest City and then stopped Claremore’s Jackson Roach in a 7-2 decision.
Barbush posted a 3-3 record in his placing effort, opening with a first-round fall victory. After a quarterfinal loss he followed with a 2:16 fall win against Damien Watson from Lawton and a 1:53 fall triumph facing Grove’s Eli Phillips.
Carter Kemp had one win in consolation round action at 150 pounds with a 1:40 fall over Devon Dirham of Midwest City. Joseph Sepalvedoe notched a 7-6 decision against Lawton’s Raheem Elzey at 175 pounds. Guy Richards picked up a lone triumph at 190 pounds as well with a 12-0 major decision of Isaiah Silcox of Shawnee.
Hayden Bridges scored a 10-0 major decision over Levi Davis from Lawton and drew a forfeit over Shawnee’s Jaxon Turner at 190.
Barbush, Polk and Trotter all pitched in fall victories in the Lions’ 53-33 dual loss to Ardmore earlier in the week.
At 150 pounds, Barbush dispatched Lisandro Hernandez at 1:19, Polk topped Ryder Ingram in 1:06 at 157 and Trotter was a 3:42 fall victor facing Rayden Lewis at 165 pounds.
Jacoby Brigge was a 9-6 decision winner against Jonathan Willis at 138, Sepalvedeo added a 2:07 fall and Peyton Smith was a 4:23 fall winner over Nathaniel Guzman.
The Lions will compete in the District Duals this week and have the Midwestern Conference Tournament next week in town at the Choctaw Event Center on January 30-31.
